The Poetry of Alan Sheppard...
WOODLANDS
Through upturned branches, dew laden leaves fell,
Autumnal breeze committing them to their required end,
Spinning and pivoting toward the windswept sodden dell,
Beauty in motion, not a hint of violence as from life they are rent,
To there ranks below they add to the swell.
The glade is full of russet colours and natures smell ,
Where little creatures for themselves must fend,
Countless insects meander to many to tell,
All adding colour and vibrancy into this worldly blend,
Winter will soon arrive, until then all is well.
Natures glory is caught up in this windblown farewell,
The sunset and sunrise add wonder and flavour as their light they lend,
Where birds consume anything which shows or does dwell,
The wild flowers secrete nectar for the bees to send,
honeys intoxicating aroma like a dinner bell.
