The Poetry of Geoffrey Benjamin Chew...
ABOUT ME...
Geoffrey Chew was born in Phoenix, AZ in 1978, and again in 1980.
After a five year stay in this most effective of dehydrators, he moved
with his parents to the town of Boulder, CO. Thus began seven years of
following the herds of wild migratory college students endemic to that
particular region. (Which, along with a noted worldwide "Mexican" fast
food establishment, were the primary source of subsistence for his family.)
At the end of this most edifying of journeys, he relocated to Phoenix
once more, and remained, lost in the heat mirages so common to that area
of the southwest, for twelve years. Finally, in the year 2000, after a great
dissapointment, Geoffrey migrated to the Big Island of Hawaii, where he
currently spends his time creating, reading, wishing the rain would
stop, (or start, if it hasn't already), and praying for lightning.
He lives tenuously in a second story one bedroom concrete box
with his
wonderful fiancé Kristel Foutch, several wild geckos, (actually, the geckos
have since fled, as the installation of a bird feeder on the balcony has
created a situation hazardous to their continued liveliness), and his
pet pepper plants.
ABONIKS STUDIOS
Aboniks Studios is a small business located in Hawaii. I am the sole
proprietor. As I find myself incapable of working a regular job, I
decided to start a small business so that I could afford to stop
recieving state assistance. I am currently using Aboniks Studios to
sell various creations of my fertile imagination. Aboniks Studios is
loosely affiliated with various artists in the American southwest,
including the ThreeManquis, of which I am a founding member.
I was encouraged artistically by my parents and began working with
computer graphics software at age nine. I did not complete high school
but earned my G.E.D. I will be beginning my journey through higher
learning this August when I begin attending Hawaii Community College. I
will be majoring in Liberal Arts. I produced several pieces of digital
artwork in high school which were sold to the Chandler, AZ Center for
the Arts, and afterwords placed in the revolving city collection. Since
then my sales have been sporadic and, honestly, discouraging.
Title : About Face
Medium : Digital : PhotoShop 3.0 for Macintosh
Size : This is a deceptive term when discussing digital artwork.
The largest size I have printed it at is 30" by 20" , at
150 dpi.
Process : Good question. I like to start small and slowly make my
images larger and more complicated. I love the fact that you can
make your
surface larger whenever you want. And image flipping is better than
beer!
Well, maybe not. One thing I really _dislike_ is the fact that no
two
monitors seem to diplay colors in the same way. Anyway, the point is
I've
always wondered exactly how I do what I do, but I'm not sure yet. I
think
the whole trick to digital graphic creation is to know when to stop fiddling
with it. I really like to find things hidden in the pictures. Quite
a good time.
