The Poetry of Martin Fairclough...
MARS2EARTH

To a Martian observer the Earth appears blue
And their scientists ponder (as scientists do)
What conditions are causing this unhealthy hue
And whether one day Mars will meet this fate too.
When a long-range detector comes up with a clue
A scientist bravely gives his point of view
Which the others then gleefully, loudly pooh-pooh;
"Giant puddles of water?! You've had too much brew !!"
So they muddle along, just content to argue
Till that long-range detector picks up something new;
"Twenty-one percent oxygen?!If that were true
Then the planet would glow like one huge barbecue!"
A daring young physicist picks up this cue
"Well, perhaps those strange lights on the dark side are due..."
He is stopped by his Master, "I thought that you knew
That's when your antennae play tricks upon you..."
