The Poetry of Martin Fairclough...
THE "IN" TRAY AND THE "OUT" TRAY

When I've had one too many phone calls
And an overdose of fax,
When the Inland Revenue write me
To demand three years back tax,
When the VAT man's had me summonsed
Still you tell me to relax ?
With only half as many worries
People die of heart attacks!

All these people owe me money...
And these I owe money to -
If the first lot never pay me
What on Earth am I to do?
If the banks won't give me further loans
I can't afford to sue
Though I should have nipped it in the bud
The problem sort of grew.

Now every time the postman comes
And more mail hits the mat,
Though I hope there might be cheques inside
There's little chance of that
They just write to say they're sorry
There's no money where they're at
And if and when they're paid
My name is one more in the hat.
