"More than anything I want to communicate with the viewer to evoke an emotional response. I often develop a painting from abstract images-a technique I learned early in my career. Allowing the abstract form to suggest the outcome gives me a uniquely open vision. I seek to incorporate three elements in my work -movement,mystery and romance. I work primarily with oils since no other medium satisfies me or gives me the look and feel and luminosity of oil paint. Every fresh canvas represents a challenge in which I set a mood and create an emotional response. I have attended workshops in California, New Mexico, Washington, Texas and have been fortunate to study with some of the top professional artists in the country. Among the many awards received include The Oil Painting and People's Choice Award at the 10 State juried art shows sponsored by the Artists of Northwest Arkansas. I twice received the Grumbacher award given to an artist who work shows a bright new perception of technique, color quality, overall use of color, line and composition. Other awards include Best Emerging Artist and First Place at the Arkansas Fine Art Festival, honorable mention (twice), The Ozark Alliance show and the third place, Artists of Northwest Arkansas Membership award show. Most recently I had a painting selected for the Salon International 2006 - 5th Annual juried exhibition to be held at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, Texas in May 2006. A one person show was held at the Texas Artist Museum Society and a painting was exhibited at the Art Museum Of Southeast Texas. I am currently a member of the Oil Painters of America, The Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks and the Artists of Northwest Arkansas where I served as National Workshop Chairman for 4 years. My work is currently on exhibit at the Keels Creek Gallery in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. |
