The painting is an abstract expression of the fundamental message of human life which is as our deeds are so will be the result for us.
The face with its eyes tied represents humans who sometimes do deeds with out much thought, the sand watch in front of the face depicts the time of ones life running by and behind the head is a scroll on which all the deeds good and bad are being written.
In front of the face is a book which represents the sacred book there is in every religion, but between the book and the face there is a wall which represents the worldly attachments and desires which keep us from following the teachings the book give us.
